A lot of trucks are sitting still. If you've noticed fewer carriers bidding your lanes — or the ones that do bid going quiet a few weeks later — you're not imagining it.

M. Gerace is asset-based. We own the trucks, the trailers, and the chassis, and the drivers work for us. So when the market tightens, we don't lose capacity we were renting from somebody else. We weren't renting it. There is room on our fleet right now, and we have people to drive.
If you have lanes that need covering, send them to us. We'll look at them and tell you straight whether we can take them. If we can't, we'll say that too — you shouldn't have to find that out three weeks later.
We've been doing this for more than 30 years, and we've worked through tight markets before. The shippers who came through them in decent shape were the ones who kept their freight moving and kept their promises to their own customers.
